Trust in Science Conference

Science Europe and the French National Research Agency (ANR) are organising a conference on 11 December 2025 at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris to address how research organisations can strengthen public trust in science and research. The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, and communication experts to discuss the factors undermining confidence in science, the role of media and public engagement, and ways to improve transparency and understanding of the scientific process. The conference aims to develop concrete recommendations to enhance trust between science and society.

Adapting the FAIR-enabling data policy checklist for repositories Workshop

This interactive workshop introduces the FAIR-enabling Data Policy Checklist — a tool originally developed for policymakers and research institutions, now being adapted by the FIDELIS Network for repositories. Participants will explore how repositories can assess and develop their policies to better support the FAIR principles and will collaboratively work on the first draft of the adapted checklist. Those interested will have the opportunity to continue contributing after the workshop and be credited as co-authors of the final publication.

“Welcome to the real world,” opened the moderator of the AI in Science Summit 2025, held in Copenhagen on 3–4 November 2025 as a fully in-person event. “I hope your bodies remember that you were actually here,” he joked, setting the tone for a discussion that blended politics, science, and moral dilemmas — at a time when Europe is searching for its own path in artificial intelligence.

Open calls to grow the EOSC Federation

Three new European open calls have been launched to support the growth of the EOSC Federation and the integration of new nodes and services into Europe’s open science infrastructure. The calls differ in their focus and type of support — from the enrolment of new EOSC Nodes to preparatory grants and projects expanding the range of services within existing nodes. The deadline for all three calls is 18 February 2026. Interested applicants can join a series of informative webinars 13, 18 and 20 November 2025, which will explain the details of the calls and provide guidance for the application process.

The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) met in Copenhagen in October to discuss the preparation of the new ESFRI Roadmap 2026 and the role of research infrastructures in the emerging European strategy for technological development. Delegates agreed that research infrastructures are key providers of high-quality services and data — and an essential driver of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

EOSC United: The path towards a unified EOSC Federation and the Czech contribution to the project

In September 2025, Brno hosted the official kick-off of the EOSC United and EOSC Gravity projects. The joint launch brought together representatives of European institutions and national initiatives focused on research data and open science. Among the participants were Bob Jones, the project coordinator, and Luděk Matyska from the EOSC CZ Initiative, whom we asked about the EOSC United project's direction and the EOSC Federation's future.
