Open Science II Conference

The kick-off conference of the Open Science II project will focus on research data, repository creation, and the transfer of information and experience not only among project participants, but also within the wider EOSC CZ community and the broader professional public. The main goal is to inform participants about the partial outputs of the Open Science II project and to offer opportunities to exchange experiences and obtain practical information for creating repositories within the project.

Cybersecurity and resilience against foreign influence operations in EOSC CZ

This event is held in the Czech language.

The workshop will outline the legal limits of cyber security following legislative amendments and focus on protecting research data, research outcomes, innovation and knowledge transfer. Participants will gain an overview of obligations related to preventing unauthorised access to or disclosure of data and of measures required from 2027 onwards.

Are We Measuring Open Science the Right Way?

The webinar organised by OpenAIRE will explore whether current indicators can effectively measure progress in Open Science. It will open a discussion on how metrics influence the research environment, decision-making, and funding, and how they can be used responsibly. The event will bring together European initiatives focused on monitoring Open Science, research assessment, and the societal impact of science, and will provide a space for sharing experiences and identifying principles for the meaningful use of indicators in practice.

Kristýna Zychová coordinates open science at CZU Prague and is also involved in national initiatives at Technology Centre Prague. This year, she co-organised the Prague EOSC CZ Networking event — an initiative intentionally focused on practical workshops that also attracted researchers who do not usually attend similar events. In the interview, she discusses why implementing open science is primarily about people, how CZU is building a support network across faculties, and why Czech science is facing a crucial systemic decision.

EOSC CZ Networking events continued this spring with two more meetings, highlighting the gradual growth of the research data management community in the Czech Republic. The March event at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and the April follow-up at the University of West Bohemia combined a strong focus on practical work with data, sharing experience, and building concrete collaborations across institutions.

April is dedicated to citizen science, which has become an increasingly important part of research and open science in recent years. How are data collected from the public actually used in practice? What benefits and challenges does this approach bring? And what is needed for its further development in the Czech Republic? We asked three researchers – Alena Fornůsková (Czech Academy of Sciences), Jakub Trojan (Faculty of Science, Masaryk University), and Michael Lažan (Senzorvzduchu, z.s.) – who have long been involved in citizen science.

Does EOSC need a fundamental shift in mindset to become a fully fledged platform for science?

Research infrastructures are among the leading producers of scientific data in Europe, and their role will be decisive in determining whether the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) becomes a truly functional research environment. On 16-17 March 2026, representatives of European research infrastructures gathered at the historic Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan, originally founded in the 16th century as a hospital for the poor. Their goal was not to ask how to build EOSC, but how to ensure it delivers real value for science.
