9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Annotation: In recent years, institutional data policy has become a key instrument for the governance of research data management, the implementation of open science principles, and ensuring compliance with national and international requirements set by funding bodies and legislation. Nevertheless, many research institutions still face the question of how to approach such a document – where to begin, whom to involve, and how to create a policy that is not merely a formal regulation, but a genuinely functional and widely accepted framework for the day-to-day management of research data.
The seminar will introduce a manual and template for an institutional data policy, prepared by the Education and Human Resources EOSC CZ working group, developed as a direct response to the needs of Czech research institutions. Participants will become familiar with the purpose and role of institutional data policy, how it fits into the broader institutional architecture, and the key areas it should address – from responsibilities and researcher support to data preservation, sharing, and the handling of sensitive data.
The seminar will also include a guided “reading” of the document, with an emphasis on decision points requiring the active involvement of research institution leadership. The lecture offers an opportunity to understand not only the content of the document, but also the process of its development.
Benefits for participants: Become familiar with the activities of the EOSC CZ working group on Education and Human Resources; gain an understanding of the importance of both regulatory and declarative institutional documents; and gain insight into the institutional data policy template.
