Annotation: Tired of losing track of different document versions? Struggling to organise your research files and collaborate efficiently? There’s a better way – learn Git & GitHub! In this fast-paced, hands-on workshop you’ll discover why version control is essential for open, reproducible research, then go from first install to your firstpull request. We’ll cover setting up Git, initialising and cloning repositories, tracking and reviewing changes, branching and merging. Through realistic researchexercises you’ll practise safeguarding your work, avoiding conflicts and maintaining a clean, auditable project history. Designed for students and researchers with no prior experience, you’ll leave with a working toolkit – and the confidence to manage projects, share code and data, and collaborate without the chaos.

Ondřej Mottl
Ondřej Mottl leads the Laboratory of Quantitative Ecology at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. His research encompasses quantitative ecology, macroecology, palaeoecology, and community ecology, with a strong emphasis on data science. Ondřej's current projects involve developing advanced tools foranalysing global biodiversity patterns and addressing challenges in scientific exploration. In addition to his research, he is dedicated to teaching and mentoring, aiming to inspire and guide the next generation of ecologists and data scientists. As the Open Science Champion at Charles University, Ondřej advocates for scientific reproducibility, reflecting his commitment to open and collaborative science.
