Members of the EOSC CZ Working Groups Elect Their Representatives Again After Two Years
EOSC CZ enters a new phase: this year’s working group elections reflect the shift toward practical use of the infrastructure and the development of services.
The third Polish National Tripartite Event held on 25 March 2025 in Kraków, came at a key moment for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)—just weeks after the launch of its build-up phase. The hybrid event attracted nearly 100 participants in person and over 450 online viewers. Discussions revolved around data interoperability, long-term infrastructure sustainability, and the practical application of FAIR data principles.
Representatives from the European Commission, EOSC Steering Board, and EOSC Association emphasized that the coming period is critical for shaping a well-functioning EOSC Federation. Interoperability between national nodes and enhanced monitoring frameworks are top priorities, with visibility of the EOSC EU Node remaining central to ERA (European Research Area) goals.
A key focus was on the post-2027 vision—the need for a stable, long-term framework for EOSC that aligns with initiatives like EuroHPC and European Data Spaces. The EOSC Association’s coordinating role, supported by Horizon Europe projects EOSC Gravity and EOSC United, is vital for the successful implementation of the build-up phase.
Panel discussions highlighted common barriers to cross-disciplinary data reuse, particularly in complex domains like health and physics. Speakers stressed that trust, transparency, and demonstrated scientific value are essential for real progress. Real-life use cases were central to the event, from the use of knowledge graphs to long-term infrastructure planning beyond project-based funding.
EOSC CZ contributed directly to these conversations through Olga Bohuslavová, who moderated a panel on domain-specific aspects of research data management. “We need fewer declarations and more real use cases that demonstrate the value of FAIR data in practice,” said Olga Bohuslavová.“Cross-disciplinary collaboration starts with understanding each other's data needs, which takes ongoing dialogue and trust.”
In parallel, the EOSC Tripartite Governance met in Kraków under the Polish EU Council presidency. Key milestones included the official launch of the EOSC Federation Handbook and a renewed mandate for EOSC-A to coordinate implementation efforts. The Czech Republic was represented by Jan Hrušák, Luděk Matyska, and Petra Nichtburgerová.

Building and connecting expert communities is one of the core activities of the EOSC CZ initiative. Alongside the development of infrastructure and services, strong emphasis is placed on the people who use these tools in practice and help move them forward. For this reason, a series of thematic networking events was organised throughout the past year, bringing together researchers, data stewards, institutional leadership and professionals engaged in Open Science and research data management.
