EOSC Symposium 2025: Another Milestone for the EOSC Federation
In early November, Brussels hosted the EOSC Symposium 2025, one of Europe’s key annual events dedicated to the future of open science and research data management.
In September, the EOSC EU Node announced the launch of its new Learning Center on OpenPlato. The platform currently offers training materials designed to help researchers understand and make better use of the EOSC EU Node — an online portal providing access to digital resources, tools, and services that support research and collaboration across Europe in line with the principles of Open Science and FAIR data.
Individual courses focus on specific EOSC EU Node tools and services. Interactive Notebooks introduces a cloud-based computational platform that enables data analysis, machine learning, and real-time collaboration. In the Resource Hub, users can explore rich digital resources using advanced filters — for example, to search for datasets. The Tools Hub provides access to scientific tools and computing resources, while the EOSC EU Node Learning Center also offers courses on additional services such as file transfer, use of virtual machines, and more.
Anyone can use the EOSC EU Node after logging in with their institutional ID or through two alternative access options (described in the user guide). The portal is free to use and operates on a credit-based system.
A short tutorial highlights the main benefits of using the EOSC EU Node — such as a shared workspace that allows collaboration among team members from different research institutions and countries. As the platform follows the principles of Open Science, it is particularly valuable for Horizon Europe projects, which must comply with these requirements (e.g., publishing in trusted repositories).
All currently available training materials are divided into two types: tutorials (short introductions explaining the basics) and courses (step-by-step guides). For instance, the introductory tutorial provides a clear and concise (15-minute) overview of what the EOSC EU Node is and its broader significance. It explains that the EOSC Federation connects multiple national nodes across Europe to create a shared European data space. The EOSC EU Node is the first European-level node, playing a key role in this federated system by setting standards for future nodes, serving as an entry point for researchers, and providing access to the developing federated infrastructure.

Three new European open calls have been launched to support the growth of the EOSC Federation and the integration of new nodes and services into Europe’s open science infrastructure. The calls differ in their focus and type of support — from the enrolment of new EOSC Nodes to preparatory grants and projects expanding the range of services within existing nodes. The deadline for all three calls is 18 February 2026. Interested applicants can join a series of informative webinars 13, 18 and 20 November 2025, which will explain the details of the calls and provide guidance for the application process.
